It seems that all has already been said of Winston Churchill. A military chief, journalist, painter, historian, author and politician - Churchill was indeed an all-embracing and rather eccentric figure, who devoted his life to serve his country. A remarkable orator and indefatigable worker, his career path is fascinating, yet, like many a genius, he also had a dark side. The British prime minister led his people to victory, defending at all costs the interests of his nation against the rising powers of the United States and the Soviet Union. Certain decisions, such as the destruction of the French fleet in Mers-El-Kebir, or the bombing of Dresden, durably tarnished his image. Endearing to some, irritating to others, the Old Lion was unquestionably one of the key figures of 20th-century history.
